Arabuko Sokoke forest is the largest existing fragment of the tropical forests that covered much of the East African coast and is an important habitat for endemic/endangered birds, insects and mammal species. It is located on the Coastal Strip, Kilifi District 75km from Mombasa and is covering 6 square km.Arabuko Sokoke was proclaimed a Crown Forest and gazetted in 1943. Part of the forest was gazetted as a strict nature reserve in the late 1960s.
There is currently no accommodation inside the reserve, but there is plenty of accommodation along the coast.
The Golden-rumped Elephant-shrew, Sokoke bushy tailed mongoose, Ader’s duilker, Waterbucks, Bushbucks, Civet, Biotched Genet, Caracal, Sykes’ Monkey, birds and others are some of the wildlife that can be found in Arabuko Sokoke National Reserves.
